The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) is continuing to accept applications for its Research Grants Programme, having extended the deadline until 30 April 2026 to give additional time for researchers and creatives to participate.

The decision was made in response to the strong demand for registration in the sixth edition of the programme, held in 2026, which highlights a growing interest in the ALC’s knowledge-centred initiatives and reaffirms its ongoing commitment to supporting scientific research in Arabic and enhancing its presence across various fields of knowledge.

The Centre invites researchers and those interested in participating to complete the application form available on the dedicated page of the ALC website, in accordance with the approved conditions and criteria, in a bid to attract robust research projects that contribute to advancing knowledge production in Arabic.

The extension reflects the Centre’s commitment to accommodating this significant demand and providing a wider segment of researchers with the opportunity to participate, thereby strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub for Arabic-language knowledge production, while supporting the UAE’s strategic direction to reinforce the knowledge economy and enable Arabic to serve as an effective tool in scientific research and specialised authorship.

The Research Grants Programme aims to support authorship of academic books and encourage Emirati, Arab, and Arabic-speaking researchers to submit high-quality projects that promote the use of Arabic in research and authorship, while building a solid knowledge base that enriches the Arabic library and keeps pace with rapid scientific and cultural developments.

The programme offers six to eight research grants every year with a total value of up to AED600,000 for research studies that comply with the approved academic standards. Entries are submitted across six categories: Arabic Lexicon, Academic Curricula, Literature and Criticism, Applied and Computational Linguistics, Teaching Arabic to Non-Arabic Speakers, and Manuscript Editing,

Research must be written exclusively in Arabic and comprise a minimum of 50,000 words. Submissions must adhere to approved academic standards and present clear theoretical and methodological frameworks, and include a well-defined work plan. Projects must be original, recent, and unpublished, and must not have received prior support from any other entity.

Proposals are subject to rigorous scientific evaluation in accordance with international standards, taking into account the quality of the research, its expected impact, its relevance to the ALC’s strategy, and the research track record of participating scholars, thereby ensuring the production of academic books with lasting knowledge value.

Since its launch in 2021, the Research Grants Programme has awarded 35 research grants under the Basaer (Insights) series of research papers and studies aims to publish outstanding scholarly works awarded grants under the Research Grants Programme. The Basaer supports scientific research across diverse fields of Arabic language studies and enriches the Arabic library with high-quality, specialized publications. Its previous edition attracted broad international participation, with 516 applications submitted from 36 countries, reflecting growing confidence in the cultural and knowledge initiatives launched by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and its role in supporting Arabic-language scientific research at a global level.
