Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre Holds Poetry Evening Titled "Poetic Pulses" to Celebrate World Poetry Day

The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) recently organised a Ramadan poetry evening titled "Poetic Pulses" to celebrate World Poetry Day, featuring poets Ilham Al Rabia and Abdulaziz Barout, accompanied by Emirati musician Shamsa Al Jasmi on the oud.

Organised by the Centre in collaboration with the Abrahamic Family House on Saadiyat Island, Al Rabia began the evening, hosted by poet Lamia Sayqal, with a selection of her most beautiful poems, delighting the audience with her eloquent words and stressing that the most beautiful poems she has written are about her love for her country. She then recited a piece titled "Al Beit Mitwahid" (A United Home), followed by a romantic poem titled "Tawarat Al Ahlam" (The Dreams Disappeared). Al Rabia then concluded the evening with her poem "Darb Muhathab" (A Polite Path).

For his part, Barout presented a collection of his most popular poems that combined patriotism and sentimentality. He began the second half of the evening with a patriotic poem titled "Aasimat Al Hadarat" (The Capital of Civilisations) - an ode to the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.

Since its launch in 2021, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre has been committed to promoting poetry by publishing and translating poetry books, organising cultural events and poetry evenings, and honouring outstanding poets.

The Centre also launched the Kanz Al Jeel Award to elevate the status of poetry and highlight its role as a mirror of society, in line with the ALC’s strategy to support, promote, and advance the Arabic language across all fields.
