The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, works to support Arabic language development and modernisation through comprehensive strategies and frameworks, enrich the scientific, educational, cultural and creative contributions of the Arabic language, promote Arabic language proficiency and cultural understanding, and support Arab talents in the fields of writing, translation, publishing, scientific research, arts, and content creation.

The Centre works to realise its foundational vision through dedicated programmes, human expertise, and meaningful partnerships with the world’s most prestigious technical, cultural and academic institutions.

Programmes

Zayed Poetry Encyclopaedia

Documenting and introducing the poetry of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan through arts, publishing, literary analysis, digital resources, poetry competitions, music, and performance art.

Arabic on the World Stage

Developed to support Arabic language adoption on a global scale, Arabic on the World Stage aims to further the adoption of the language and incentivise the introduction of programmes and activities that foster cultural and linguistic diversity and champion tolerance as a core value underpinning international cooperation.

The Global Arabic Proficiency Exam

Promoting Arabic language education, proficiency, and adoption by public and private institutions in the UAE through standardised Arabic language exams for professionals and students whose work and studies demand Arabic language proficiency.

The Arabic Book Programme

The Arabic Book Programme works to foster writing, publishing and translation from and into Arabic as part of a comprehensive agenda designed to support culture and creativity in the Arabic language, including the following initiatives:

  • Kalima Translation Project
  • Esdarat Programme
  • Digital Publishing
  • Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (and other book fairs)

The Arab Content & Talent Expansion Fund

A fund dedicated to investing in Arabic content production and educational technologies, through funding technology start-ups, content creators, developers, creative talents, and NGOs in the field of arts and culture.

The Arabic Language Observatory & Fund

The Arabic Language Observatory & Fund was founded to promote the Arabic language through grants to prestigious academic and cultural institutions, publish policy papers on the language’s development in peer-reviewed journals, and develop a modern digital Arabic dictionary.
