Mohammed Bin Zayed University for Humanities at ADIBF 2023

Mohammed Bin Zayed University for Humanities participates in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2023 with a packed programme that extends throughout the days of the Fair. The programme includes seminars and lectures covering intellectual, literary, social, and humanitarian topics, presented by a large group of professors and experts from the University. The programme also introduces new books in these fields and concludes with a poetry evening featuring a selection of renowned Arab poets.

 

This week witnessed the launch of the magazine "Qira'at" in a session featuring Dr. Radwan El-Sayed, moderated by Dr. Nizar Qabilat. Asma Al-Maamari also delivered a lecture on Emirati craftsmanship. In the “Salon of Wisdom”, Dr. Ibrahim Zainhum discussed the philosophy of language and the domains of applied linguistics.

 

The University also hosted a seminar titled "The Future of Humanities Studies," with the participation of Professor Dr. Mohamed Osman Al-Khasht, Dr. Ismail Ketabkhana, and Dr. Eric Jouvra. Dr. Wadema Al-Dhaheri delivered a lecture on sustainability in the United Arab Emirates, while Dr. Sterling Jensen presented a lecture on scientific approaches to studying religions. The events also included a book signing ceremony for Ibn Tufail's book by Prof. Ebrahim Bourshashen.

 

The University's activities at the Fair continued with a session on Ibn Khaldun, the philosopher and historian who is the Focus Personality of this year's edition. The session featured Dr. Ridwan Al-Sayyid, Dr. Nabil bin Abdullatif, and was moderated by Asma Al-Maamari. Additionally, Dr. Wadema Al-Dhaheri presented a lecture titled "Social Tolerance and Its Impact on Society." Dr. Maryam Al-Zaidi discussed a doctoral thesis on ethical values and their applications in financial transactions, and in the Salon of Wisdom, Dr. Saeed Obeid spoke about the philosophy of values according to George Santayana.

 

The Fair continues with elite contributions that enrich the University's participation. On the fourth day of the Fair, a seminar on Emirati literature and its extensions took place, featuring Dr. Nizar Qubailat, Dr. Abduldaim Salami, and Dr. Iyad Abdulhameed. Dr. Ridwan Al-Sayyid delivered a lecture on renewing religious discourse, while Dr. Haithm Zinhom Morsy presented a lecture on the impact of modern technologies on the purity of the classical Arabic language. Asma Al-Majid spoke in the “Salon of Wisdom” about philosophy and music.

 

On the fifth day, Dr. Ridwan Al-Sayyid spoke in the Salon of Wisdom about the importance of books in Arab-Islamic heritage. The university organised a session on the United Arab Emirates and heritage, with the participation of Dr. Wadema Al-Dhaheri, Dr. Maryam Al-Kalbani, and Asma Al-Maamari, moderated by Dr. Najia Al-Kitbi. Additionally, there was a lecture for a doctoral thesis on tolerance in the United Arab Emirates by Dr. Omar Alduray.

 

On the sixth day, Dr. Ibrahim Borsashan and Dr. Abdul Daim Salami will discuss the philosophy of poetry in the Salon of Wisdom. Dr. Maria Al-Hattali also gave a talk on the common links between religions. Dr. Ibrahim Shibuh will deliver a lecture titled "My Journey with Ibn Khaldun." The same day also features a book signing ceremony for Dr. Haithm Zinhom Morsy's book titled "Automated Language and Humanities Processing."

 

The last days of the Fair will also witness a poetry evening in the realm of classical Arabic poetry featuring Dr. Mohammed Adnani, Dr. Laabidi Bouabdallah, Prof. Ebrahim Bourshashen, Dr. Iyad Abdulhameed, and Dr. Abduldaim Salami. Dr. Saeed Obeid presents a lecture in the Salon of Wisdom on the philosophy of ethics according to Bertrand Russell. Dr. Fatima Al-Dhahmani delivers a lecture on the history of tolerance and coexistence in the United Arab Emirates. The University concludes its events with a book signing ceremony for Dr. Karima Al-Mazroui's book titled "When the Classroom Door Closes."
