Organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, the 14th edition of the Al Ain Book Festival 2023 allocated a dialogue session at Bait Mohammed bin Khalifa to honour the winners of the 2nd edition of the Kanz Al Jeel Award, where the audience got to meet the winners and learn more about their works that have enriched the Nabati poetry landscape across a range of categories, including arts, poetry matching, poetic publications, studies and research, as well as creative personality.
The winners shone presenting their poetic and artistic works within the session moderated by Dr Ali Saeed Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Higher Committee of the Kanz Al Jeel Award, and attended by HH Dr Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre.
During the session, Dr Abdullah Maneh Ghleis, winner of the Studies and Research category, talked about poetic rhymes in classical and Nabati poetry, as he has a doctorate in Arabic language and has published a numerous specialised books and research in the fields of poetry and prosody. He has also served on several jury committees for Arab poetry awards and festivals and lectured at several colleges.
Ali Asiri, winner of the Poetry Matching category, also discussed matching the late Sheikh Zayed's poem that starts with "What a wonderful life! The sky is lit up” and read his winning poem “The Poetry Role Model”. Asiri's poems have appeared in the majority of Gulf newspapers and publications. He also wrote several columns for Emirati and Saudi publications, hosted poetry evenings at a number of Arab and Gulf festivals, hosted a number of talk shows on radio and satellite channels, and his poems were sung by some of the Gulf's most famous artists.
Saif Al Saadi, winner of the Creative Personality category, discussed his motivations for supporting aspiring poets and the importance of it. Al Saadi is regarded as one of the most prominent poets in the Gulf and is known for his deep-meaning poems, his use of local colloquialisms and unique poetic imagery. For 30 years, he has presented numerous distinguished poetry programmes and served as a judge on the “Raa’i Al Qaseed” competition on Sama Dubai TV.
Muntasir Fathi, winner of the Arts category, spoke about his painting in which he used "The sky is lit up" phrase of the late Sheikh Zayed's poem, and combined calligraphy, design with letters, and abstraction in a creative path. Muntasir Fathi is an Arabic calligraphist who has participated in numerous international exhibitions of Arabic calligraphy and Islamic arts. He was also part of judging Arabic calligraphy competitions, participated in numerous specialised exhibitions, and received a number of international awards.
In the Poetic Publications category, the prize has been awarded to HE Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi for his collection “A Love Renewed”, published by Dar Molhimon Publishing in 2022. With its authentic and expressive language, the poetic work offers diverse content and purposes with a fresh and distinctive perspective on Nabati poetry. It maintains the authenticity of Nabati poetry with all its unique features, showcasing rich poetic imagery and vocabulary.
