Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre’s Esdarat Releases New Edition of the Late Emirati Poet Ahmed Rashid Thani’s ‘A Wave at the Door’

The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) has released the second edition of the book ‘A Wave at the Door’ authored by the late Emirati poet and esteemed writer Ahmed Rashid Thani.

 

First published in 2009, the title of the book, 'A Wave at the Door,' evokes the reader's imagination, depicting a child with the sea at his doorstep. Weaving a unique world, the author narrates a tale that intertwines childhood innocence with the harsh realities of life, set against the backdrop of the waves from his youth on the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates. Taking the readers on a journey, it explores his love for the sea and mountains in Khorfakkan, rich with geographical and local details spanning generations. The book consists of six chapters: The Objector, Al-Mudifi, The Mountain Gate, The Sea Gate, Crows, Angels and Films, and In the Embrace of Forgetfulness.

 

This release reflects ALC’s commitment to preserving the late author’s impactful literary legacy and offers readers another opportunity to immerse themselves in the poetic and creative world of Thani.

 

Ahmed Rashid Thani, was born in Khorfakkan, Sharjah, in 1962, and passed away at the age of 49 in 2012. He was one of the most distinguished poets in the United Arab Emirates, excelling in both Nabati and Fasih poetry. Inspired to start writing poetry in the 1970s by Syrian poet Muhammad al-Maghout, who was working in Sharjah at the time, Thani had his poems published in several UAE-based and international newspapers and journals.

 

Beyond the written word, Thani also actively engaged in literary festivals and forums, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural landscape. His literary legacy boasts an impressive tally of 17 books, including eight poetry collections, as well as books about theatre and heritage studies.
